1.	Determine which market you are looking to gain exposure to e.g. US equities, UK gilts

2.	Refer to the Square Mile Rated Funds Summary to identify rated funds in the region. Square Mile does not believe that there is a right or wrong way to track indices, however, there are subtle differences in approach. Funds can be differentiated by the precise index followed, the breadth of the provider’s range, whether stock lending is employed, domicile, trading times, swing pricing policies and/or fair pricing policies. Note that ultimately cost is a very important consideration, but all the Square Mile rated passive funds will have costs that are similar – cost differences of a few basis points are unlikely to have any material impact on performance.

3.	We expect all the rated funds to perform broadly in line with the index they track. The decision on precise choice of fund best lies with the adviser.

4.	Refer to the fact sheet on the Academy of Funds for further details on the funds. These can be retained by the adviser as part of their due diligence process.
