The number of strategies available in the UK market continues to grow, as does the pressure from the regulator on evidencing good consumer outcomes. The need for thorough fund research to enable advisers to identify the most suitable strategies for their client’s needs has, therefore, never been greater. This creates a necessity for the investment industry to make information more accessible and easier for advisers to interpret: the Fund Dashboard is designed to meet that obligation

Launched in 2020, the Fund Dashboard builds on Square Mile’s commitment to help independent financial advisers, financial institutions, and asset managers make the most informed investment decisions which deliver the most suitable outcome. With investors increasingly looking beyond performance as the only measure of success, the Fund Dashboard is designed to offer a more rounded overview to help advisers assess a strategy’s overall ability to meet their client’s investment objectives.

The Fund Dashboard provides an interactive interface offering a snapshot of five key elements that are considered in the selection process: opinion, performance, risks, costs, and responsible investment.

Opinion

A combination of qualitative and quantitative assessment of a strategy's ability to meet its objectives through Square Mile's ratings.

Performance

A representation of a strategy's absolute annualised return over 3 years, or since inception if the strategy's history is shorter. If the primary output is income, the current yield is shown instead. In addition, the strategy's success is shown as a percentage of time it has achieved its investment objective or Square Mile's expected outcome over the stipulated time frame.

Risks

An assessment of the risk of the strategy and the asset class in which it invests. The strategy's maximum drawdown during the last 3 years or 1 year if the strategy has a shorter history.

Costs

An overview of the strategy's ongoing charges, its ex-ante transaction costs and the total cost of ownership, provided by managers' data teams to Refinitiv. The comparison, as illustrated by the value-o-meter, shows strategies in the same peer group on a like-for-like basis i.e. active vs. active and passive vs. passive.
